Who We Are

If you’ve never been to a Spiritualist church, get ready for an altogether different and uplifting experience. And, if you are familiar with Spiritualism, we are delighted that you have found our welcoming community!

So, what is “altogether different” about Spiritualism? For starters, our belief system is grounded in a set of Principles which draw in part, from the Natural Laws of the Universe including the laws of attraction, creation, and others. We believe that life is continuous even after the change called death and offer proof each Sunday through the demonstration of Spirit communication.

You will find like-minded people coming together in love, acceptance and humility, sharing a spiritual journey and learning from each other. As a community, we embrace the love that this life offers and the eternal connection we all share.

  • Spiritualism is a belief system that intertwines ancient wisdom with contemporary thought. Spiritualism as a religion does not follow a specific dogma or creed, but rather a set of 9 guiding principles which reflect the philosophy and the science behind the religion. At its core, Spiritualism asserts that life persists beyond death and that communication between the Spirit World and Earth World proves this.

In the eyes of Spiritualists, God stands as the Universal Source, the Infinite Spirit. We perceive ourselves as integral components of this divine energy. Our philosophy emphasizes personal responsibility for behavior as the path to spiritual growth and positive living. Unlike some other belief systems, we do not have a specific dogma but rather, we are guided by our 9 principles.

Heavenly rewards and hellish punishments find no place in Spiritualist beliefs. Instead, we envision that after the change called “death,” all souls progress into the Spirit World, where teachings for spiritual advancement continue.

  • Join us for an uplifting and unique experience each Sunday at 10:30 am. We do things a little differently at our wonderful church. We include meditation, hands on healing, uplifting music, an inspirational message and communication with those who have passed to spirit.

  • Walking into our chapel by the sea, is like taking a step back in time. Our traditional New England style chapel was built in 1891 by the Swampscott Universalist Church and still retains its original charm and character. In 1901, the parish hall was added which we later named Simpson Hall in honor of our first minister, Bob Simpson.

Members of the Salem Spiritualist Church, seeking to branch out on their own in the mid 1960’s, approached the Swampscott Universalists about sharing their lovely chapel. They soon came to an agreement.

Soon thereafter, the Swampscott Universalists merged with the First Universalist Parish of Lynn. In 1982, the Unitarian Universalists of Lynn offered to sell the church building to us and we readily agree. Since then, we have been growing and thriving as a vibrant community in this beautiful and historic church.
